Internet Referencing

1. Internet Referencing: Introduction

The following pages show you how to reference pages from the Internet according to the house-style of the Royal Academy of Dance where I work. Please bear in mind the following:

  • Referencing is a matter of principles, not rules. There are cases where you will have to make decisions based on those principles, taking into account the nature of your work, who will read it, and the role which a citation plays in your work.
  • Referencing is a matter of house style - you will find many other styles of referencing, depending on which University or institution you work for, or are submitting work to. These pages are about how to do it here.
  • Internet referencing is a comparatively new and developing phenomenon. What makes sense today may not make sense tomorrow, what is necessary today may be redundant tomorrow.

In the following pages, we'll look at each of the principles, components and purpose of Internet referencing in full.
